The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular destinations for mountain-climbing.

Guildmore MD, Engin Ertosun has undertaken a lifetime challenge to venture into the mountains and walk through the ice-capped mountains with three friends.

The team are supporting the challenge through fundraising for St Christopher’s Hospice. The journey began on 11th March 2017, when Engin and team flew from Heathrow to New Delhi.  From Namche Bazaar, they journeyed through high altitudes and chilly weather.

After two hours of climbing, they reached Tyangboche Monastery, located at an altitude of 3,867 m. This monastery resides on the top of a ridge and provides a sweeping view of Sagarmatha. From here, they move towards their destination following Imja Khola, Pangboche and Pheriche villages and will reach Khumbu glacier after a few hours of trekking. Beyond this glacier the team reach Lobuche where they can rest and admire the landscape.

Moving towards Gorakshep, they progress to Kalapathar 5,554m and to the Everest Base Camp. This last phase of trek is the toughest one. It’s very difficult to reach Kalapathar and to access the campsite, as the altitude is very high, with low oxygen levels. Walking and climbing through these heights is not easy… However, all the effort is worthwhile when you know that the dream to conquer Everest is  within your sights. Good luck Engin!
